On Monday, armed men attacked a hotel in Selaya in central Mexico, killing nearly 12 and injuring five others.

Local news station Telemundo 52 reported that at least 11 people were killed and at least five injured when about 15 militants stormed a Gala hotel and bar in Selaya, Guanajuato, Mexico.

Authorities said the massacre began around 10 p.m. local time and more than 50 shots were fired at hotel guests and staff standing inside and outside the hotel and bar.

A shopping street close to the shooting was also suspected to have been set on fire and destroyed with homemade bombs, local authorities reported.

Upon entering the hotel, the agency initially found four people dead (two men and two women, ages not disclosed), and an additional five women and one man were found dead when the hotel bar was monitored.
