20 injured in Milwaukee shooting after Bucks playoff game

At least 20 people were injured in two shootings in downtown Milwaukee near an entertainment district where thousands watched the Bucks play against the Celtics in Game 6 of the NBA Eastern Conference semifinals, officials said.

None of the injuries from the shooting after Friday night’s game were considered life threatening.

The first shooting involving three victims took place near the Deer District, an entertainment district with numerous bars and restaurants where crowds gather to watch major sporting events.

Milwaukee Fire Department said authorities took two people, a 30-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl, to the hospital, and a third person drove a car to the hospital. A 29-year-old man has been detained, police said.

A second shot, approximately two hours later, several blocks away, wounded 17 more. Ten people were detained and nine guns were recovered, WTMJ-TV reported.

It was not immediately clear whether the two shootings had something to do with fans watching the match or not.

Bill Reinemann of a parking lot adjacent to the Deer District said he heard gunshots but did not see anyone being shot or witnessed a shooter during a previous shooting.

“It was like hearing six or eight gunshots,” he said. “It was close.”

Dozens of fans started running towards the deer district after the gunshots were fired, he said.

After 18 years of working hard, Reinemann stayed with him even when fearsome Bugs fans passed him by.

“I’ve been sitting here in my chair the whole time,” he said.

“The incident took place outside the Deer District area,” Birx spokeswoman Barry Baum said. “We are forwarding all inquiries to the Milwaukee Police Department.”
