There are several ways to earn money on the metaverse by participating in play-to-earn games, purchasing virtual real estate or creating 3D assets on metaverse platforms such as Roblox, AltspaceVR and VRChat. Korean 3D modeling software developer triangle Metaverse creators can use the Unity plugin to create their own 3D assets.
Hwang Jae-sik, CEO of Tripolgon, said in an interview with TechCrunch, “Making 3D modeling is no longer the domain of experts or software developers.
The Seoul-based startup recently raised $5.2 million to accelerate its growth. Series A funding has raised the total to $5.7 million, and the company is valued at around $25 million.
Tripolygon was founded in 2018 by Hwang, a former chief engineer at German video game developer Crytek.
3D modeling software is like a set of tools for creating 3D assets, Hwang explained. Users can use 3D modeling software tools to create all kinds of 3D assets such as buildings, props, items, avatars, he added. Tripolygon provides 3D modeling software (UModeler), plug-ins (UModeler X) and more as a subscription service for metaverse creators.
3D modeling tools will be added to Unity when users install Tripolygon’s UModeler in Unity, Hwang said.
Most users of the Unity engine, such as programmers, game designers, and visual effects (VFX) artists, need to create 3D assets. However, learning 3D modeling software programs such as 3ds Max, Maya, and Blender, developed for 3D modeling professionals and professional software developers, is not an easy task. According to Hwang, Tryipolygon’s services allow you to create 3D assets in Unity with a familiar UX/UI without learning complex software programs.
The startup’s main customers are Unity developers who use UModeler on the Unity Asset Store, Hwang said. To date, approximately 17,000 Unity developers are using UModeler, with close to 2K monthly active users.
Last October, Tripolygon partnered with Unity to become a Unity Validation Solutions Partner. The UModeler product, a plug-in for real-time 3D model creation, has been confirmed by Unity to be an optimized software development kit for Unity editors and developers.
This funding was led by KB Investment and We Ventures, and Naver Z and Strong Ventures participated.
