AGT Contestant Drake Milligan Drops Out of American Idol Season 16

On Tuesday, June 7th, 2022 at 8:00 PM EST, country singer Drake Milligan and his band wowed the judges and received approval from the jury in a thrilling edition of America’s Got Talent (AGT).

The one-hour time limit amazes the judges and live audience, while brimming with stellar talent that lives up to their namesake. Talents ranged from dancing, music and comedy to animal acting, aerial acting, and AI-assisted Simon Cowell singing on screen.

The popular reality talent showdown is revived for season 17, and like the previous season, it is already gaining popularity among fans. Fan-favorite AGT celebrity judges Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Sofia Vergara and Heidi Klum return to the jury to wow audiences with their unique personalities.

Drake Milligan left the show.

Drake Milligan, 24, was born in Mansfield, Texas, and grew up listening to country music before deciding to pursue a music career. He is best known for impersonating Elvis, but he originally wanted to be an actor. Drake Milligan made his acting debut in 2017 playing “King of Rock & Roll” on the CMT TV series Sun Records. For the same reason, he moved to Nashville.

The AGT competitor claimed in an interview with Sounds Like Nashville that he first met Elvis Presley when he was about 7 or 8 and felt he was “the coolest guy.” Then he went on a quest to learn all he could about the singer and actor, and tried to imitate him during performances.

The AGT contender became a household celebrity when he auditioned for season 16 of American Idol after serving on the TV show. His singing ability captivated judges including Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie on a trip to Hollywood. After the audition, he was quickly dropped from the competition.

In an Instagram message, the musician explained his decision to fans.

The singer explained her choice to her followers in an Instagram post. And focus on my music! It was a difficult decision, and it has nothing to do with my audition experience.”

While in Nashville, Drake booked a writing session with Bill Anderson, Dean Dillon, Monty Criswell, Marv Green, Paul Overstreet, and Brice Long. On his official website, he detailed his experience creating songs for several heroes:

“Because it’s Nashville where all my heroes are.” The people who wrote and performed my favorite songs are still great musicians. They aim to get up every day and write the best song they can do. I wanted to get something out of every piece I wrote. Writing with those singer-songwriters was a rite of passage for me.”

The Internet Reacts To Drake Milligan

Texas-based Drake Milligan described it as “fantastic” by one user. He should have made it to the finals and received a golden buzzer. He is a fantastic vocalist and entertainer.

Another said, “Now all I want to do is go to Apple Music and see if Drake’s song is there.” I agree with the judges that it has the potential to be a big hit.

Another netizen said, “Why the hell Drake Milligan and his band aren’t doing country records right now?” He also played Elvis Presley in the TV show. Right?

Another said Drake Milligan could be the country’s new Elvis.

Last week some outstanding contenders did their best to advance to the next round, illuminating the stage for NBC’s America’s Got Talent (AGT) audition. Among them were the magician merchant Vera, the ventriloquist Selina Monuz, and the pop girl group XOMG POP. Avery Dixon won his first Golden Buzzer of the season after wowing judges and host Terry Crews with his story and saxophone talent.
