Ashley Judd recently appeared on Healing. podcast Hosted by grief expert David Kessler.

The Divergent star was candid about her mother’s suicide, detailing how she coped with the pain.

‘Looking back on my childhood,’ Judd said in an interview, I realized that I was raised by a mother with an undiagnosed and untreated mental illness. And she understood that the different behavioral expressions, interactions, daydreaming, and choices she made were expressions of her illness.’

She said, ‘I understand it, I know she’s suffered, and I can understand today that she’s doing the best she can. She would have done it if she could have done it differently.’

The 54-year-old actress said she ‘didn’t cause’ her mother’s illness, but understood that she ‘out of control’ and ‘couldn’t fix it’.

She continued, ‘My most earnest wish for my mother is that, when the transition comes, I will be able to shake off the guilt and shame for all the shortcomings I experienced while raising me and my sister.’

Judd went on to say: ‘Certainly for me, everything was forgiven a long time ago and everything was forgiven a long time ago.’

The famous country musician The Double Jeopardy star was found dead on April 30, 2022, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after years of battling mental illness.

Naomi’s daughters Ashley Judd and Wynonna Judd have both died of ‘mental illness’.

They said in a joint statement, ‘We are shattered. We are going through her deep sorrow and we know we are loved by her public as much as we have loved her. We are in the unknown.’

Meanwhile, Wynonna and her mother, made up of a musical duo called The Judds, were due to be inducted into Nashville’s Country Music Hall of Fame the day after Naomi’s death.

However, Ashley joined Wynonna to honor her and pay tribute to her mother.

The Double Jeopardy star said, ‘I’m sorry I couldn’t make it until today because your mother loves you so much’.

She said, ‘Your respect for her and your respect for her have penetrated her heart. It was her love for her that kept her going over the last few years.’
