Cubs SS Nico Hoerner sent off after clash with referee

cubs Shortstop Nico Hoerner left Wednesday’s game against Padres after clashing with the referee in the second inning.

After Padres shortstop Jurickson Profar tripled from center field, Hoerner ran into the referee as he tried to position himself to defend a relay throw from Cubs right fielder Jason Heyward.

Both the shortstop and the referee fell to the ground. The 24-year-old was confirmed by trainer and manager David Ross after the crash and appeared to have right leg pain, but stayed for the other two innings.

However, he was out for the rest of the game as Ildemaro Vargas appeared to fill at shortstop.
