Digitas UK acquires CRM accounts for BT and EE from Wunderman Thompson


BT and EE have appointed Digitas UK of Publicis Groupe to their Customer Engagement business.

Wunderman Thompson of WPP handled CRM accounts previously awarded to Digitas by BT and EE without presentation.

In addition, Saatchi & Saatchi, a fellow agency of Publicis Groupe, has acquired the BT Sport advertising business.

Wunderman Thomspon acquired the account in 2017 after a penalty shootout against Omnicom’s Proximity London. Prior to that appointment, Ogilvy was in the BT business and Publicis Chemistry was in the EE business after being merged with Digitas.

Media from BT and EE have been handled by Essence of WPP since the relocation of Essence from WPP in 2017 amid the merger of Maxus and MEC resulting in Wavemaker.

A spokesperson for Wunderman Thompson said: “We are delighted to work with BT on a wonderful campaign that has won over 80 awards, including the prestigious Cannes Lions for the BT Sports ‘Unscripted’ campaign.

“We continue to work with BT across our global and enterprise divisions on integrated creative, data and technology briefings.”

This move expands the relationship between BT and EE with Publicis Groupe. In August 2020, the telecom giant consolidated its advertising accounts into Saatchi & Saatchi. Originally assigned the store to the 2019 Brand Brief. Neither of them included an official presentation.

Prior to hiring Saatchi & Saatchi, BT had a 24 year relationship with Omnicom’s Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO.
