Elon Musk proposes a Twitter suggestion to reduce the proportion of bots and says the lack of explanation is ‘very suspicious’.

  • Musk has proposed cutting a $44 billion offer on Twitter based on the number of bots on the platform.
  • He says the percentage of fake accounts is about 25% of users, compared to Twitter’s 5% estimate.
  • Musk said he was “very suspicious” about Twitter’s lack of explanation for the bot’s picture.

Elon Musk added uncertainty by stating that Twitter’s lack of explanation for its estimate was “very questionable”, saying the $44 billion offer on Twitter should be cut by the platform’s percentage of fake accounts.

Musk, along with conservative commentator Ian Miles Chung on Saturday, agreed with a tweet that “if 25% of users are bots, the cost of acquiring Twitter should be 25% lower.”

“of course.” Musk answered.

Musk suspended the deal to acquire Twitter for $54.20 a share until the platform can prove that only 5% of users are bots.

Speaking on Monday’s “All-In” PodcastHe said the number is likely “four to five times” higher.

A 25% reduction would reduce the offer value to $33 billion. This amount is much closer to Twitter’s market value of $30 billion. Shares closed at $38.29 in New York on Friday.

Musk previously questioned Twitter’s lack of explanation for its 5% estimate, saying it had no incentive to deal with fake accounts.

“I’m concerned that Twitter will play a passive role in reducing spam because it reduces the number of perceived daily users,” Musk said.

Musk to user asking if he contacted Twitter answered: “No, they still refuse to explain how 5% of daily users count fake/spam! Very suspicious.”

It represents the latest expansion of rhetoric in a turbulent acquisition process, and Musk has reminded investors of its priorities over other companies, Tesla and SpaceX.

Musk previously suggested taking a sample of 100 users to determine the number of bots on Twitter and platforms suspected of violating the NDA. He responded to Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal’s explanation as to why this wasn’t possible with the poop emoji.
