Five killed in Puerto Rico public housing complex

San Juan, Puerto Rico (AP) — At least five people were shot and killed in a public housing complex in Puerto Rico on Sunday night, authorities said.

Police spokeswoman Axel Valencia told the Associated Press that the deaths occurred in the Caimito community in the US capital San Juan. He said the group was shot outside the Villa Esperanza housing complex.

Valencia said police had not yet identified the victims and it was not immediately clear why they were targeted.

No one was arrested.

Last month, police reported that two men were found dead in an overturned car in the same public housing complex.

So far this year, at least 235 people have been reported to have died on the island of 3.2 million, compared to 234 in the same period last year.
