First time to embrace Crypto in La Liga

Digital assets and the football industry have developed a relatively strong bond over the past few months. Numerous clubs around the world have announced partnerships with cryptocurrency companies, introduced exchanges as backers, or accepted asset classes as a payment method.

However, Spain’s top football division, La Liga, has not been very involved in the field. according to recently press releaseThis trend is set to change this summer, when RCD Espanyol will allow its supporters to purchase merchandise during matches with tickets, food and beverage, Bitcoin, Ether and other digital assets.

To this end, the club has partnered with Crypto Snack, a financial application based in Barcelona and Estonia. The native iGaming token called SNACK is listed on several major exchanges. Assets are added to the offering, allowing fans to use them as a means of payment.

RCD Espanyol CEO Mao Ye Wu believes this collaboration will provide “a huge advantage on and off the pitch”, giving football supporters additional opportunities to watch the game.

“Through this step, we become pioneers in a field that is not the future, but the present,” he said.

Crypto Snack CEO Stuart Morrison said he was honored to have his company partner with one of the most popular football clubs in Spain. He believes that this effort will provide Espanyol fans “a fun and efficient way to support their team using SNACK and other cryptocurrencies.”

Tigres Says ‘Yes’ to Bitcoin

Another football mogul that has allowed supporters to buy match passes with cryptocurrency is Mexican Tigress. To make this possible, the team has partnered with Latin American digital asset exchange Bitso.

The platform’s co-founder and CEO Daniel Vogel has argued that the partnership with Tigres will “expand its use as a payment method for all types of events” by increasing daily employment of cryptocurrencies at sporting events.

Football club president Mauricio Culebro Galván hinted that this may not be the last cryptocurrency attempt the team has launched.

“Tigres continues to look to the future and there will be new initiatives to continue providing better service with Bitso.”
