Former WNBA physician Dr. Preston Phillips is believed to be a prime target in the mass shootings at an Oklahoma medical building this week.

A man opened fire on Wednesday at the Natalie Medical Building on the campus of St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. Four innocent bystanders lost their lives before being shot.

Dr. Preston Phillips was an orthopedic surgeon working at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa.

He was killed in a mass shooting in Oklahoma on Wednesday, including the shooter.

According to law enforcement, Phillips had back surgery on the shooter last month.

Moreover, the killer is believed to have shot at the hospital, angry at the doctor who performed a horrific operation on him. He claimed that the shooter suffered severe back pain after surgery.

Tulsa Police Chief Wendell Franklin referred to notes left by the perpetrators at the scene.

Franklin said the killer ‘made it clear he came in with the intent to kill Dr. Phillips and anyone who interfered with him’.

Dr. Preston Phillips was a former WNBA Chief Physician.

Dr. Preston Phillips was a former Principal Team Physician for the WNBA’s Tulsa Shock.

He began working with Shock in 2010 when the franchise partnered with the Warren Clinic Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. Phillips was Warren’s chief physician at the time.

After the team left Oklahoma to rebrand to Dallas Wings in 2015, Phillips continued to work at the Warren Clinic. He soon became an orthopedic surgeon and director.

Former Shock director Gary Kloppenburg mourned the death of the 59-year-old doctor. Kloppenburg remembers Phillips as ‘kind and compassionate’.

The 69-year-old coach posted her feelings on Twitter.

He said, ‘Lord, help us, our wonderful @wnba @TulsaShock team doctor Preston Phillips was one of the innocents killed in the recent massacre. He is a kind and compassionate man who loves basketball and takes care of our players.’

In a second tweet, he went on to say, ‘The OK legislature failed to protect citizens by enforcing incredibly lax gun laws near the house and @GovStitt’s negligence. RIP document.’
