American Hockey League’s Springfield Thunderbirds goalkeeper Joel Hofer had a special moment on Thursday.
Hofer engraved his history while defending a goal for the Thunderbirds against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in Game 2 of the best-of-5 Atlantic Division Semifinals.
Hopper, who made 34 saves during the game, became the second goalkeeper in Calder Cup playoff history to score in a 6-2 win over the Penguins by the Thunderbirds.

The 21-year-old collected an unsafe puck from behind his net and dropped the ice into the penguin’s empty goal with 3:48 left in the 3rd period.
Hopper also became one of 18 AHL goalkeepers to score in a game, regular season or playoffs. The historic goal helped the Thunderbirds take a 2-0 series lead against the Penguins.
