Honor’s new Android phone has 100W wireless charging and flagship specs.

The Honor Magic 4 Pro is the newest Honor flagship and is currently available in the UK. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because it was previously unveiled at MWC 2022 in early March, but a UK release date hasn’t been confirmed. Here it is now.

If you haven’t yet been swayed by the Samsung Galaxy S22 series or OnePlus 10 Pro, the Honor Magic 4 Pro will be the phone that will make some of your hard-earned cash. Don’t do it. Specifically, you need 100W wireless charging.

That’s a staggering amount of charging power that can be provided without wires, and can be charged to 50% in about 15 minutes. Unlike most phones, you can’t get more charging power by plugging this in, and wired charging also hits 100W, but most handsets outperform it.

In addition to this charging, the Honor Magic 4 Pro has a 4,600mAh battery, a 6.81-inch 1312 x 2848 OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, a top-of-the-line Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, 8GB or 12GB RAM, 256GB or 512GB. of storage.

It also has a quad-lens camera with a 50MP wide-angle sensor, 50MP ultra-wide, 64MP telephoto (providing 3.5x optical zoom) and a depth sensor. It also has a 12MP selfie camera and sports a premium design with a glass back, metal frame and IP68 water resistance.

The Honor Magic 4 Pro also joins the Honor Magic 4 Lite, previously launched elsewhere as the Honor X9, so it’s not entirely new.

6.81″ 1080 x 2388 LCD screen, refresh rate 120Hz, mid-range Snapdragon 695 chipset, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, 4,800mAh battery, 66W wired charging, triple lens camera, 48MP wide area snapper, 2MP macro and 2MP depth sensor.

There is no information on when the Honor Magic 4 Lite will be available or how much it will cost, but the Honor Magic 4 Pro will be available starting May 13th at £950 (about $1,175 / AU$1,680). Don’t expect one of them in the US because they weren’t released in the US.

Analysis: Main Enemy

The Honor Magic 4 Pro is Honor’s flagship product, so you might be wondering how it compares to its major competitors like the aforementioned OnePlus 10 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.

As mentioned, the wireless charging speed is faster than either. The OnePlus 10 Pro also outperforms the two in wired charging power as the OnePlus 10 Pro supports either 50W wireless or 80W wired charging, while the S22 Ultra supports either 15W wireless or 45W wired charging. However, the battery is smaller and both rivals use 5,000mAh.

The display on the Honor Magic 4 Pro has a slightly lower resolution, but the screen specs are pretty much the same, and on paper they should all offer similar performance.

The camera is another difference. The OnePlus 10 Pro features a 3.3x optical zoom with a 48MP wide-angle sensor, 50MP ultra-wide and 8MP telephoto. So it’s not much different, but Honor has the upper hand in terms of megapixels and zoom length.

However, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is quite different with a 10MP periscope camera with a 108MP main sensor, 12MP ultrawide, 10MP telephoto (with 3x zoom) and 10x optical zoom. So Samsung wins in zoom length and has a main sensor full of pixels, but with fewer megapixels on other sensors.
