The 29-year-old made 14 appearances for the Browns last season after signing a one-year, $10 million contract with incentives. He had the most 9 sacks at Houston since 2018 and his presence forced an attack, sometimes forcing him to commit additional blockers on his side, which resulted in freeing Garrett with 16 sacks, a career high.
He added 37 tackles (24 solos), 19 QB hits and 2 forced fumbles last season.
Clowney will rejoin Garrett and rookie Perrion Winfrey this season. He will also be reunited with the new Browns QB Deshaun Watson.

Clooney has suffered at least one injury each season since his 2014 debut. He spent five years at the Texans before having a short break at the Seahawks in 2019 and the Titans in 2020.
He had three sacks in Seattle and none in Tennessee.
After signing a one-year contract (three years in a row) with the Browns in April 2021, Clooney suffered elbow, knee and ankle injuries during the 2021-2022 season.
The Browns did not qualify for the playoffs last season and finished third in the AFC North (8-9).
