Lizzo Donates $500,000 to Planned Parenthood and Abortion Rights

Lizzo has pledged to donate $500,000 to planned parental and abortion rights in an upcoming trip.

The bGrrrls artist is gearing up to kick off the tour to support her fourth studio album Special, which will be released this fall.

The singer has revealed that the donation will be matched with live entertainment promoter Live Nation, which will raise $1 million (£815,300).

Funds will be raised to help the aforementioned non-profit organizations. They will provide reproductive health care in the United States and worldwide.

Melissa Viviane Jefferson (Lizzo) also shared the post on Instagram.

She promises ‘$500,000 on my upcoming tour of planned parental and abortion rights. Live Nation agreed to match to make $1 million.’

The musician continued, ‘The most important thing is action and a loud voice. @plannedparenthood @abortionfunds and similar organizations need funding to continue serving those most affected by this ban.’

The 34-year-old artist added. ‘Black women and women of color have historically had disproportionately less access to family planning resources. This is a huge loss, but nothing new.’

The Grammy Award-winning singer also urged fans to donate.

Lizzo closed the post with ‘Go to lizzolovesyou.com to donate, sign the Bans Off My Body petition and register to volunteer’.

The Bans Off My Body petition was launched by Planned Parenthood as a ‘Cry for Autonomy and Equality’.

The landmark Roe vs Wade incident of 1973

The US Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade almost 50 years ago. It was a case of legalizing abortion at the federal level.

Simply put, individual states in the United States can now either allow or ban abortion outright.

According to a report by Politico, five states in the US already have abortion illegal, while 23 states are expected to ban it soon.

But Friday’s court ruling caused tremendous outrage from people around the world.

The Roe vs Wade legal fight revolved around ‘Jane Roe’, known as Norma McCorvey.
