Lupita Nyong’o is a Kenyan-Mexico actress. The daughter of Kenyan politician Peter Anyang ‘Nyong’o and Mexican-born singer Lupita Nyong’o, she was born in Mexico City and raised in Kenya at the age of 16. She attended college in the United States and earned a BA in Film and Theater Studies from Hampshire College.
Nyong’o began her acting career as a production assistant in several films, including Constant Gardener (2005), starring future co-star Ralph Fiennes. She made her acting debut with her minor role in her British drama Sugar (2009). She went on to appear in the independent film The City Without Rest (2011) and in supporting roles in the films Half of the Yellow Sea (2013) and Nonstop (2014).
In 2015, she starred in the role of Maz Kanata in the Star Wars film The Force Awakens and voiced in the Disney film The Jungle Book. Additionally, Lupita Nyong’o has over 10 million followers on her Instagram account as of October 2022.
