Man who stabbed his wife to death, found dead in prison


A Houston man was found dead in prison hours after being arrested for stabbing his wife to death in front of his 7-year-old son.

According to authorities, 37-year-old Benjamin Pearce was found unresponsive on Saturday around 4:30 a.m. in the cell of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office in Texas.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said on social media that Pierce was rushed to hospital but died.

A, 37, was arrested and charged with the murder of his wife Leslie Ann Pierce just hours ago.

Police rushed to a Harris County home on Friday morning around 8:30 a.m. after stabbing his wife with a knife.

When police arrived at the scene, they found Pierce, a 41-year-old teacher, and her husband still in the building.

Police said the couple’s 7-year-old son was in the house at the time of the attack.

A 56-year-old man was also in the house when police arrived.

Before calling 911, the suspect reportedly called his family and told them about the stabbing.

A knife, believed to be a murder weapon, was also recovered from the scene.

The motive for Mr. Pierce’s murder is unclear, but officials said the case was being investigated as a domestic incident.

Now that Mr. Pierce has also died, an independent investigation into the suspect’s death in custody has begun.

Sheriff Gonzalez said there were no obvious signs of trauma or misconduct and that the inmates were held in solitary confinement “most of the time.”
