Rafael Nadal kicked off his record 14th French Open men’s title challenge with a hit-and-run win over Australia’s Jordan Thompson.

The Spanish player, aiming to regain his crown after Novak Djokovic’s victory in 2021, cruised and won 6-2 6-2 6-2.

The 35-year-old fifth seed has won the French Open for the 106th time.

He will face Corentin Moutet in the second round after the French won the 2015 winner Stan Wawrinka.
