In a statement Tuesday, Princess Anne expressed her condolences in memory of Queen Elizabeth II and said she was “fortunate to be with the last 24 hours of her dearest mother’s life.”

“It was an honor and privilege to accompany her on her final journey. It was humble and uplifting to witness the love and respect shown by so many on this journey,” she said.

“It would have reminded us that we took her existence and her contribution to national identity for granted,” she added.

Anne also nodded to her eldest brother, the new king Charles III, who became king after the death of her mother last week.

“I am so grateful for the support and understanding my dear brother Charles gave me as he accepted the added responsibility of Monarch,” she added.
