Rainn Wilson changes name to protest climate change

Office graduate Rainn Wilson, best known for his role as Dwight Shroud, has changed his name to raise awareness of the climate crisis.

Here’s everything you need to know.

Why did Rainn Wilson change his name?

Rainn Wilson took a bold step by changing the name to Rainnfall Heat Wave Extreme Winter Wilson to draw attention to the climate crisis.

Also on Wednesday, he shared the announcement with 4.4 million followers via his Twitter account.

He wrote, ‘with the help of friends of scientists at the Arctic base camp, the name was changed to Rainnfall Heat Wave Extreme Winter Wilson.’

He also explained that he used a website called Arctic Risk Name Generator to change the name.

‘This is no joke,’ Wilson said. I’m as serious as the Arctic melting. This amplifies global risks, including extreme weather events worldwide.’

He said, ‘This name change is getting bigger and bigger… We need world leaders to recognize this and take action at COP27. The Arctic is melting at a rate of millions of liters per second, but this problem doesn’t seem to make a name for itself. So it’s up to us to name it.’

Moreover, the 56-year-old actor was announced ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP27) to be held in Egypt this week.

Wilson urged the public and celebrities alike to join him in raising climate change awareness.

Moreover, he suggested that Cardi B could change her name to ‘Cardi Arctic B is melting’ and ‘Amy Poehler bear is endangered’.

Meanwhile, Gail Whiteman, founder of Arctic Basecamp and sustainability professor at the University of Exeter Business School, supported the actor.

He said ‘thank you’ for Wilson asking people to do his part.

Fans React to Rainn Wilson’s Name Change

Rainn Wilson has certainly exposed the topic of climate change, but social media users are constantly taunting him for his new name.

Aside from that, while many considered Wilson’s daring behavior ‘extreme’, others claim it was quite Dwight style.

One user wrote, ‘This is a very Dwight Shroud job, but for a very extraordinary cause for Dwight Shrut.’

Another pointed out that ‘we’re changing the name to ‘Wait 5 minutes’ to warn of the dangers of eating a hot pouch directly in the microwave.”
