Shakur Stevenson Parents: Malikah Stevenson and stepfather Shahid Guyton

Shakur Stevenson is an American professional boxer. He has held the WBO featherweight title since 2019 and has once challenged the WBC silver featherweight title in 2020. As of May 2021, Stevenson was ranked 3rd in the World’s Best Active Featherweight by The Ring Magazine, 4th in the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board, and 5th in BoxRec.

Born in Newark, New Jersey, Stevenson started boxing at the age of five. As an amateur, he won a gold medal in the bantamweight division at the 2015 World Championships and a silver medal in the same division at the 2016 Olympics. Stevenson turned pro in 2017 and won his first 18 fights before challenging Joet Gonzalez for the 2019 WBO featherweight title.

He unanimously became the youngest world champion at the age of 22. Stevenson succeeded in defending the title against Miguel Marriaga in 2020, but lost the title to Josh Warrington in a technical knockout in his second defense in 2021.

Shakur Stevenson mother, Malikah Stevenson

Malikah Stevenson is of Puerto Rican descent. The duo met when Malika was six months pregnant. He took great care of Shakur and didn’t feel his father’s absence, which made him the champion he is today. They exchanged vows, tied knots, and have been together ever since. She is from Auckland. The first child of Malikah and her husband was given the name Ash-Shakur Nafi Shahid Stevenson.

Shakur Stevenson stepfather, Shahid Guyton

Stevenson’s biological father, of Puerto Rican descent, was not part of Shakur’s life. He started boxing at the age of five under his grandfather Wali Moses, citing Andre Ward as his influence.

Moreover, Shakur Stevenson still did not forget his roots. He still shares a close relationship with his parents. When he was young and just starting to learn boxing, his mother would often say that he had to be more aggressive in the ring to become a successful boxer.

And it was this advice that Shakur took to heart. This drive and determination helped him win several championships as an amateur before turning pro. And now as he prepares for his first title defense against Joet Gonzalez, Stevenson still has his family close to his heart. “I’m doing this for our city and I’m doing this for Newark,” Stevenson said. “I want to show them a great stage.”

Stevenson is currently undefeated as a pro and has been named the world’s second-largest featherweight by the WBO. He will continue to aim for the title when he comes into the ring against Gonzalez on October 12th.
