Styles P was a member of the hip-hop group Lox and started rapping when he met Mary J. Blige. Lox’s lyrics impressed Sean “Diddy” Combs, who later signed with Bad Boy Records. They became famous for working with rappers such as Notorious BIG, Diddy and more.
Most of the singles from 1996 and 1997 by Diddy, Mariah Carey, The Notorious BIG and Mary J. Blige were written and produced by the group. The trio was praised for its hit “We’ll Always Love Big Poppa”, a tribute to the late Notorious BIG.
After the publication of their debut album Money, Power, and Respect in 1998, Lox continued to write additional tracks.
