Tampa Bay Lightning’s third consecutive Stanley Cup bid is in trouble.
Lightning took the lead in the 3rd period as the Toronto Maple Leafs won 4-3 and took a 3-2 lead in the Best of 7 Eastern Conference Round 1 Series.
However, Lightning has a recent history. They are heading home for Game 6 and have been losing 16-0 since the start of the 2020 postseason. Toronto, meanwhile, haven’t won a first-round series since 2004. In 2019 and 2021, the Leafs won three, but failed four.
Tampa Bay will need more to keep running. Lightning looked like they were looking for another explosive win with two quick goals in the first period, but didn’t get another puck until the third period, beating Jack Campbell.
Until then, the Leafs were 3-2 ahead of goals from John Tavares in the second period and goals in the third period from Morgan Rielly and William Nylander. It was the first lead change in the series.
Tampa Bay’s Ryan McDonagh equalized the equalizer, but was later caught up in the ice and took a 2-1 rest against Toronto. Auston Matthews scored from Mitch Marner’s so-called pass-off pad.

It was Maple Leaf’s 3 goals in 7 at-bats in the 3rd period.
Lightning goalkeeper Andrei Vasilevskiy, last year’s Conn Smythe Trophy playoff MVP winner, has conceded at least three goals in all games this round.
Lightning will also have to figure out how to block the Leafs star, especially when Tavares finally have a big game.
Hurricane’s Seth Jarvis scores an odd goal against the Bruins.
Carolina Hurricanes forward Seth Jarvis scores two goals in a 5-1 victory over the Boston Bruins.
The first was a little strange.
Hitting the ice, he tried to pass the puck in front of the net. But it was skated by Bruins forward Jake DeBrusk and floated over the shoulders of Jeremy Swayman.
His second goal was more traditional as he scored a rebound.
Hurricane leads the series to 3-2.
