Taylor Swift extends chart reign in Australia

You’ve probably heard of Taylor Swift’s Midnights by now. Those who are barely far away are in the minority. It’s safe to say that Taylor Swift’s latest studio album is a confirmed smash hit that doesn’t come around as often as Halley’s Comet. With its latest release, TayTay has broken numerous records around the world, including in Australia and on both sides of the Atlantic. None of these are more eye-catching than her top 10 hit on the US singles chart. Taylor Swift is the first in the Billboard Hot 100’s 64-year history to have all tracks on all 10 spots from one album.

For the first time in her career, Midnights sold 1.578 million chart copies in the United States, the world’s largest music market. According to Billboard, Adele’s third album 25, released in 2015, recorded the highest number of streams among artists in the streaming era with 3.38 million views. It’s a similar story in Australia, where Taylor Swift’s latest album Midnight hits number one and has nine songs cramming into the Top 10 on the ARIA Charts, another record, including a song titled Anti-hero.

Recording the biggest weekly volume of any album in five years, Taylor Swift’s Midnights (via Universal) topped the Australian music charts. Midnights topped the ARIA charts with more combined sales than any other title since Taylor Swift’s Reputation, which also topped the list in 2017. According to Universal Music Australia, Midnights sold over 10,000 vinyl copies, making it the most streamed album in ARIA history. In Australia, it is her best-selling album since Reputation in 2017, which was her tenth number one.
