Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McClaren watched Manchester United with new manager Erik ten Hag on Sunday.

Steve McClaren and Mitchell van der Gaag were appointed assistant coaches for Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

They worked with new Manchester United manager Ten Hag in Dutch football. McClaren from FC Twente and Van der Gaag from Ajax.

All three were in the stands at United’s loss to Crystal Palace on the final day of the Premier League season on Sunday.

“I thought I was working hard until I met Eric,” McLaren said.

“His big strength is not just his attention to detail and organization. He has a clear philosophy about how he wants to play football and the environment he wants to create.”

Former England manager McLaren worked as an assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson for Manchester United for more than two seasons from 1999 to 2001.

Van der Gaag spent last year in Ajax as Ten Hag’s assistant.
