Republican Senate Delegation Meets Zelensky in Ukraine

The Ukrainian band Kalush Orchestra dedicates the Eurovision victory to all Ukrainians and urges an audience of millions to help the country affected by the battle.

“Help Ukrainian Mariupol. Would you like to help Azofstal right now?” The band’s frontman, Oleg Psiuk, begged the people to release the hundreds of Ukrainian warriors imprisoned in the ironworks.

Volodymyr Zelensky asked for official recognition of Russia as a “terrorist state” at a meeting with US senators on Saturday.

“We are grateful for the historic decision to renew our rental program. I urged the official recognition of Russia as a terrorist state,” Prime Minister Zelensky said in a nightly speech.

Earlier, the Russian defense minister once again warned Britain and the United States about Moscow’s new arsenal of intercontinental ballistic missiles.

On Friday, Ukrainian forces stopped a Russian attempt to cross a river in Donbas, an eastern province that includes Luhansk and Donetsk regions that have been the focus of the war.

Despite the Russian retreat, locals fear a return to the scarred village of Kharkiv.

Russian troops have been driven out of Kharkiv, but families who have left the village, Ukraine’s main city, find it difficult to return amid threats of rape and death.

Like Dennis Kozmenko, who left with his young family just hours after witnessing his young mother being taken away to be raped by Russian soldiers. She evacuated the school when her airstrikes hit the area.

Mr. Kozmenko realized that the worst could come for his family. So he decided to move his wife and daughter out of town.

Ukrainian photographer fights against Russian propaganda

For photographers like Alina Smutko, the tough choice to leave or step back from their home country of Ukraine is not the scenario they envisioned becoming a reality. But once I made the decision, it wasn’t that difficult.

She decided to step back and fight for what she had.

Alina is now documenting a crisis and she herself is in great danger, but she hopes taking war pictures will let the world know what is happening in Ukraine, and that she wants her work to “win against Russian propaganda” .

Her world was different until Russia sent troops on the night of February 24. Previously, her work has focused on politics, sports and social justice. Her work took her to many parts of Ukraine, including the disputed Russian-occupied territories of Crimea, Luhansk and Donetsk.

Now, as a war photographer, she spends her days documenting the stories of innocent people affected by shelling, refugees fleeing, and charities working to help.

Russian troops depart from Kharkiv east to Donetsk Pound

Ukrainian military officials said on Saturday that Russian troops are withdrawing from around Kharkiv after several weeks of bombing of the country’s main and second largest city.

However, as Russia redeployed its forces from the besieged country, the attack intensified in the eastern region.

The military is withdrawing from northeast Kharkiv and guarding supply routes instead, officials said.

Along with this, mortar, artillery and air strikes continued in the eastern Donetsk province to “deplete the Ukrainian army and destroy the fortress”.

Defense Minister Olexi Rezhnikov has warned that Ukraine is “entering a new and prolonged phase of war”.

Zelensky, along with Mitchell McConnell, urges recognition of Russia as a ‘terrorist state’.

Volodymyr Zelensky said in a meeting with US senators on Saturday that Ukraine has requested official recognition of Russia as a terrorist state as Ukraine marks the 80th day of its invasion of the Kremlin.

“We have discussed various areas of support for our state, including defense and finance. It also tightens sanctions against Russia. I thanked the historic decision to renew the Lend Lease program. I called for official recognition of Russia as a terrorist state,” Zelensky said.

He added that the Ukraine-US summit in Kyiv, led by Republican Minority Leader Mitchell McConnell, demonstrated “the power of bipartisan support for our country and the power of ties between Ukraine and the United States.”

One of the topics of the talks was food security, as the conflict still puts wheat supplies from Europe at risk.

“More and more countries around the world are realizing that as Russia cuts off the Black Sea for us and continues this war, dozens of other countries are at risk of price crises and even famine in their food markets. This is another motivation for our anti-war coalition to act more decisively together,” said the Ukrainian leader.

He also called for more assistance to besieged countries.

He said the sooner we liberate our land and ensure the security of Ukraine, the faster we can restore the normal state of the food market.

Marjorie Taylor Greene mocked that the GOP’s visit to Kiev proves that Ukraine is not in danger.

Marjorie Taylor Greene is being criticized online for claiming that a video showing US lawmakers visiting Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky proves that Ukraine is safe.

“Pay attention to the politicians elected by the United States. [House Speaker Nancy Pelosi] And [Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell] Georgia Republican lawmakers tweeted on Saturday that they can visit Zelensky in Ukraine without bulletproof vests/helmets or fear of the dangers of war.

“If the situation in Ukraine is severe enough for the US to send $54 billion, our top leaders will not be able to go,” she added.

Comments came quickly for scrutiny and jokes on social media.
