Unable to keep Pete at Bay: Alonso stays hot as the Mets beat SF.


SAN FRANCISCO — Pete Alonso sprinted three to five with a three-run homer and the Mets beat the Giants 13-3 at Oracle Park Monday night.

Alonso had his fifth multiple hits in his last six games and raised his slash line to .288/.356/.524. His 40 RBIs lead the National League, and 11 long balls are tied for first place.

Mark Canha and Jeff McNeil also hit home runs for the Mets, who had 18 hits and 7 with a runner in scoring position. Every New York starting pitcher has had at least one hit.

David Peterson led the win with three hits, two runs and three strikeouts in six innings. Lefty sent off the last 11 batters he faced.

The Mets went from 29-15 to over .500, improving to their best 14 games of the season.
