USFL Week 6: Matt Colburn II leads the way to victory over Banditz.


Week 6 USFL season start Tampa Bay Bandits And Philadelphia Stars.

The Stars (3-3) defeated the Bandits (3-3) 35-28. Matt Colburn II led the Philadelphia offense with 18 rushes and 3 touchdowns over 140 yards from the win.

Tampa Bay quarterback Jordan Ta’amu lost 333 yards with four touchdowns.

Philadelphia Stars 35, Tampa Bay Bandits 28

An intercepting short field from Philadelphia’s Amani Dennis set the Stars and brought a 6-yard touchdown pass from Case Cookus to Bug Howard. Luis Aguilar’s extra goal was good and the Stars took a 7-0 lead early in the game.

A touchdown turned out to be the only goal in the first quarter.

Jordan Ta’amu put a 13-yard touchdown pass perfectly into John Franklin III’s hands with 2:17 left in the first half to put the Bandits on the board. Tyler Rausa’s extra points ended the game at 7-7.

The Stars regained the lead in the next possession when Matt Colburn II rushed into the end zone from 3 yards. Aguilar scored in the first minute of the first half to make the score 14-7.

The end of the first half! Ta’amu finished the pass to Cheyenne O’Grady, who bounced off a defender and sprinted for a 37-yard touchdown. The Bandits tied the game 14-14 and headed into halftime.

The stars continued to show off their offensive power in the third quarter. Cookus and Howard teamed up for the second touchdown of the day in this short 4-yard connection. By adding points, Philadelphia regained the lead 21-14.

Colburn rushed for a second touchdown of the afternoon with this 33-yard run. The Stars finished the third quarter 28-14.

O’Grady and Ta’amu tied for another goal to start the fourth quarter. A 1-yard passing touchdown cut the deficit to 28-21.

Colburn ran 44 yards to center and continued running the entire Bandits defense as he rushed to score the third goal of the day. The score and extra points gave the Stars a 35-21 lead.

Tampa Bay did not retreat easily. Ta’amu turned to De’Quan Hampton for a 16-yard touchdown. After additional points, the Bandits made the score 35-28.

However, the score was maintained and Philadelphia won 35-28.
