The famous Ellis Island medal was awarded to eminent lawyer David Hryck.
We’ve been told it “to celebrate the importance of immigration to the American economy and the contributions that immigrants and their descendants have made to our nation.”
Currently, according to the Ellis Island Honor Society, medals are awarded to “those who have demonstrated exemplary dedication to our country, whether professionally, culturally, or civicly”.
Who is the famous lawyer David Hryck?
An entertainment attorney representing several celebrities, Hryck is an American born of Italian and Eastern European ancestry.
He has served on several charitable committees, including the Amy Winehouse Foundation, Petra Nmcová’s Happy Hearts Fund, Duke of Edinburgh Award for Excellence Fund, and Prince Alexander and Princess Katherine of Yugoslavia’s Lifeline Humanitarian Organization, and Pencils of Promise. Mariano Rivera Foundation, Marc Anthony’s Maestro Care.
Hryck is a member of the Board of Directors of the Center for International Relations and Sustainable Development and co-chair of the Board of Directors of the Lang Lang International Music Foundation, created by world-renowned concert pianist Lang Lang.
Hryck was delighted to receive the award alongside Ruth Bader Ginsberg.
Hryck told Page Six that it was a special honor for him to receive a medal on the same day as Ruth Bader Ginsberg, who was nominated for the award before his death in 2020. Due to COVID-19, the 2020 and 2021 awards ceremony was canceled and this year’s honor was given.
He added that the grandeur of the event on Ellis Island helped him realize how essential philanthropy was. Ellis Island is famous for handling millions of immigrants when they arrived in the United States. “You can see how valuable it is,” he explained.
