Franklin Tiafoe is Frances Tiafoe’s adorable twin brother. He was born on October 14, 1998 in Prince George County, Maryland to his parents, Concordia and Lionel Tiafoe. His mother is from Sierra Leone and his father is originally from the Republic of Congo. Besides, Tiapo and Alpina Camara, immigrants from Sierra Leone. His father immigrated to the United States in 1993 and his mother joined him in 1996 to escape a civil war in his home country.
In 1999, his father began working as a day laborer on a construction worker who built JTCC in College Park, Maryland. Upon completion of the facility, he was hired as a site custodian and assigned an extra office to live at the center. Frances and Franklin lived at the center with their father five days a week for the next 11 years. They took advantage of their living environment and started playing tennis regularly at the age of four. They stayed with her mother when she was not working overtime as a nurse.
Franklin has two sisters, Aliana and Maya. He also has a younger brother, Martin. His parents worked hard to provide for their children and reminded him of the importance of education. Franklin attended Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Olney, Maryland. He played tennis for the school’s national team and ranked second nationally in the junior division.

When Tiafoe and his older brother were five, their father arranged for them to start training at JTCC without paying their usual tuition. At the age of 8, Misha Kouznetsov began teaching Tiafoe at the center, and was interested in seeing his work ethic and interest in sports. Kouznetsov sponsored Tiafoe to play in tournaments as he progressed through Junior.
