Sophie Capewell won a bronze medal in Women’s Omnium Track Cycling at the Commonwealth Games. When she received her medal she dedicated her medal to her deceased father, who wanted to see her be chosen for her Commonwealth Games. At the next Olympics, Cape Well competed in the women’s sprint at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. She later won a bronze medal with her colleagues in the team sprint at the 2021 World Championships in Roubaix, France.
She was named to the England Commonwealth Games squad in 2022 and set the initial pace for the pack with a flying lap time of 53.696 seconds. She finished 4th overall in her three opener games, where she finished first, but eventually lost to Wales’ Emma Pinu Kane for a bronze medal. British professional cyclist Sophie Capewell is the daughter of a cyclist. Her deceased father, Nigel Capewell, was a Paralympic athlete representing Team GB in Atlanta and Sydney. Sophie took part in cycling competitions at an early age and inherited her father’s genes. She won the national sprint championships while she competed in other youth competitions.

She also won a silver medal at the 2016 European U23 and Junior Track Championships in Athens, Greece. She finished 4th and 5th, but did not make the podium. Despite her family’s desire to hide Nigel’s circumstances of her death, she posted her obituary on her Twitter, where she cited Nigel as inspiration.
The message on the signboard reads, “I usually don’t post personal messages, but I lost my father, inspiration, and hero a week ago today.” Today I am really surprised and very proud to receive my medal. Still, I wish he was here to witness it. This is for him and commemorates him.

After winning the Commonwealth bronze medal, British track and field cyclist Lucy Martin dedicated it to her late father, Nigel Capewell. The Burton-upon-Trent sprint star similarly overcame team and individual sprint frustrations and finished third in the 500-meter time trial. Capewell is delighted to take a podium seat in front of his hometown crowd at London’s Velodrome after a tough year.

Although the family announced Nigel’s death in an obituary not long ago, Debbie still misses every moment spent with him. He died in October 2021. She also posted a photo of Nigel on her Instagram account with the words “I miss you” and “Heart emoji”.
