Windows 10 not running as an app? This hotfix should sort it out.

Microsoft has released a patch for an issue that occurred in a previous patch that attempts to fix another issue. The company has released an out-of-band (OOB) update that addresses an issue where applications downloaded from the Windows Store do not run properly on your computer.

On April 25, Microsoft released the KB5011831 Selective Preview Cumulative Update, which appears to break the way Control-flow Enforcement Technology (CET) works.

Intel’s CET is supported on chips after 11th gen Core ‘Tiger Lake’ CPUs, and some newer AMD processors. It is designed to secure endpoints from abuse of legitimate code through control flow hijacking attacks.

As Microsoft explained, “After installing the KB5011831 or later update, you may receive error code 0xC002001B when attempting to install from the Microsoft Store”.

“Some Microsoft Store apps may not open. Affected Windows devices have a processor (CPU) that supports Control-Flow Enforcement Technology (CET), such as an 11th generation or later Intel Core processor or later, and certain AMD processors.”

To address this issue, Microsoft has released the KB5015020 cumulative update. It is not installed automatically, so the user must manually apply the patch to fix the problem.

Administrators can pull updates to Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) and Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager. blipping computer famous.
