"Winning the Premier League is harder than the Champions League"

Manager Pep Guardiola has insisted winning the league is more difficult than winning the Champions League, despite having won it six times since his last European title.

Guardiola is preparing the team for the final day of their Premier League title, which they seek to win their fourth title in five years at Manchester City.

His team should match or be better than Liverpool’s result against Wolverhampton when they play against Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa and Liverpool legend acknowledged that it would be ‘fantastic’ to help his former team win the league.

City’s season ends on Sunday, but if Jurgen Klopp’s team can’t catch up to the current champions, they will at least console them by playing the Champions League final next Saturday.

However, despite unsuccessful success in Europe’s top competition since 2011, the former Bayern Munich manager still finds winning the league more difficult.

“I’d say it’s more difficult,” Guardiola said at a pre-match press conference. “There are many states and matches, struggles with injuries, good moments and bad moments in different situations, tough opponents.”

“It’s satisfying because we do it every day. When we fight for the Premier League and we make it last minute, we feel like we’re having a lot of fun. When we win, we’re happier in our lives.

“If you win and you win [makes for] Good training sessions, good environment and atmosphere. It’s not an FA Cup or a game, it’s everyday life.

“I’m not saying the Champions League isn’t important. We were crazy and crazy because we won.

“We want it, and we love it.

“We want to be in Paris. [in the final] But winning 38 games next week is different, not 6, 8 or 9 games.

“I’ve always loved it since I was a player. The league is good and we’re on the verge of that. We’re close.”

Guardiola clearly has a point, and as has been proven in many cases, the Champions League is not always won by the best teams in Europe.

The problem is that he has often had some of the best teams on the continent in both Bayern and Manchester City over the past 11 years, but never won.

During that time, he was able to reach only one final in the match they lost to Chelsea last season. This is one example of the best European team not winning the Champions League.

Many of the failures suggest that there is something wrong with Guardiola or his team in what they are doing to make the game more difficult.

Meanwhile, his team is on the verge of winning their seventh league title since he last won in Europe, suggesting he hasn’t found a difficult league to win.

Either way, both Liverpool and Manchester City will be desperate to win on Sunday, and City will be desperate to qualify for next year’s Champions League final.
